Stay Connected With Our Learning Journey

Looking Ahead

This Is Me

Next month we will begin exploring our new theme: This Is Me. Together we will learn about body parts, emotions, movement, identity, and the people who love and care for us.

We will continue incorporating music in both Spanish and English through songs such as En Mi Cara Tengo, Cabeza, Hombros, Rodillas y Pies, and If You’re Happy and You Know It. We will also begin incorporating yoga and baby yoga experiences to support mindfulness, movement, balance, and emotional regulation.

The children will explore emotions through books, visuals, conversations, and music while building emotional vocabulary and empathy. One of our special projects this month will be creating a personalized family book for each child featuring the important people in their lives. These books will remain in our classroom library throughout the month so children can revisit them often, strengthening identity, emotional security, and the connection between home and school.

In dramatic play, our area will transform into a doctor’s office where children will become doctors, nurses, and patients, encouraging imagination, empathy, language, and cooperative play.

We are also excited to announce that we will host a Family Day in July where families can gather after school to share food, connect, and celebrate our community together. Families are welcome to bring relatives and friends. At Paths of Learning, we believe we are more than a school — we are a community that supports and cares for one another.

What We Explored This Month at Paths of Learning

May was a month full of wonder, transformation, movement, and connection. The children explored the fascinating world of insects through sensory play, outdoor discovery, books, music, art, and hands-on scientific observation.

One of the most meaningful experiences this month was observing the butterfly life cycle together. The children watched caterpillars transform into chrysalides and eventually emerge as butterflies. Through daily observation, conversations, and real-life experiences, the children developed curiosity, patience, and early scientific thinking while building a deeper connection with nature.

We explored this topic through books, including The Very Hungry Caterpillar, How to Become a Butterfly, Flutter, Butterfly!, and The Very Lazy Ladybug. Reading in both Spanish and English continues to support vocabulary, listening comprehension, and early literacy development. During circle time, we also sang the ABC Song while exploring the alphabet visually, helping children connect sounds, rhythm, and letter recognition in meaningful ways.

Music and movement remained an important part of our days. We continued singing songs such as Mariposita, En Mi Cara Tengo, La Oruga Muy Hambrienta, and A la Rueda Rueda. Our circle games and movement songs help children strengthen coordination, body awareness, balance, social-emotional skills, cooperation, and a sense of belonging within the group. Through shared joyful experiences, children build trust, connection, and confidence.

In music, the children explored rhythm using rhythm sticks to create simple repeating patterns like “pa pa pa pa,” supporting listening skills, memory, coordination, and early mathematical thinking through repetition and sound.

Our art experiences focused on open-ended creativity and free painting exploration, allowing children to express themselves freely while strengthening fine motor skills, creativity, and confidence. We also spent a great deal of time outdoors enjoying nature, moving our bodies, observing insects, and strengthening both gross and fine motor development through play and exploration.

Throughout the month, we observed beautiful moments of cooperative work among the children as they explored materials together, observed butterflies side by side, shared sensory experiences, and learned from one another in our mixed-age environment.
